Self-Enrichment in Globular Clusters: The Crucial Role Played by Oxygen

چکیده
Results from photometry and high-resolution spectroscopy have demonstrated the existence of multiple populations in globular clusters, where one or more stellar generations stars coexist with original population. We study possibility that new generation(s) formed gas lost by intermediate mass (4–8 M⊙) during asymptotic giant branch (AGB) evolution, possibly after dilution residual pristine cluster. To this aim, we confront chemistry AGB ejecta distribution chemical composition NGC 6402. find a satisfactory consistency between observational evidence self-enrichment AGBs hypothesis is reached if mass-loss rates experienced for latter ∼10 times smaller than found solar metallicity counterparts same mass. also comment on importance knowledge oxygen abundance as key indicator extent nucleosynthesis at which belonging to second generation clusters formed, degree gas.

Halo enrichment by disrupted globular clusters
We study the evolution of the galactic globular cluster system to determine its initial mass-function and the fraction of halo stars that could have come from disrupted globular clusters. We study the cluster evolution under the influence of two destruction mechanisms: Twobody relaxation and dynamical friction. New results of N -body simulations are used for the lifetimes of clusters dissolving...
متن کاملSelf - enrichment in globular clusters . I . An analytic approach
By means of analytical calculations, we explore the self-enrichment scenario for Globular Cluster formation. According to this scenario, an initial burst of star formation occurs inside the core radius of the initial gaseous distribution. The outward-propagating shock wave sweeps up a shell in which gravitational instabilities may arise, leading to the formation of a second, metal-enriched, pop...
متن کاملEvidence for a crucial role played by oxygen vacancies in LaMnO3 resistive switching memories.
LaMnO(3) (LMO) films are deposited on SrTiO(3):Nb (0.8 wt%) substrates under various oxygen pressures to obtain different concentrations of oxygen vacancies in the films. The results of X-ray diffraction verify that with a decrease of the oxygen pressure, the c-axis lattice constant of the LMO films becomes larger, owing to an increase of the oxygen vacancies. Aberration-corrected annular-brigh...
متن کاملStochastic Self-enrichment, Pre-enrichment, and the Formation of Globular Clusters
We develop a model for stochastic pre-enrichment and self-enrichment in globular clusters (GCs) during their formation process. GCs beginning their formation have an initial metallicity determined by the pre-enrichment of their surrounding protocloud, but can also undergo internal self-enrichment during formation. Stochastic variations in metallicity arise because of the finite numbers of super...
متن کاملCNO enrichment by rotating AGB stars in globular clusters
Context. AGB stars have long been held responsible for the important star-to-star variations in light elements observed in Galactic globular clusters. Aims. We analyse the main impacts of a first generation of rotating intermediate-mass stars on the chemical properties of secondgeneration globular cluster stars. The rotating models were computed without magnetic fields and without the effects o...
